My child needs repatriating from abroad
Lia’s Wings is a UK charity that provides hospital air transfers for children. We ensure that babies and critically ill children can access specialist treatment and care. Our service extends to British babies and children who are overseas and need to be repatriated back to the UK for ongoing treatment or care. We can assist your family whether you have the correct travel insurance or not. Please get in touch with our CEO, Charlotte, if you need our asssitance. Her details are below:
We will do all we can to support you and your family.
How Lia’s Wings can help:
We can organise an air transfer back to the UK by air ambulance or commercial medical escort (whatever is most appropriate for your child) and provide funding towards the costs.
We can organise a hospital bed at the most appropriate hospital back in the UK (this is based on medical need and proximity to your family home).
We can provide emotional support – we understand you are in very challenging circumstances and we will do all we can to help you and your family.
We can help you access emergency travel documents for your newborn baby.
Once you are back in the UK, we can signpost you to other organisations that may be able to help your specific circumstances.
If you have the correct travel insurance, we can still help by:
Advocating for you and speaking to your insurer on your behalf.
Providing emotional support - although you have the correct insurance, we know this process is never simple. We are here for you for as long as you need us.
Organising a hospital bed at the most appropriate hospital back in the UK (this is based on medical need and proximity to your family home) - this is not always the case with insurance flights.
"I am so grateful to have found Lia’s Wings and wish I'd have known about them sooner. I instantly felt like I had support and someone there who truly cared and wanted to help me and Ren. From medical advice to a supportive chat, helping with my medical transfer and making me feel less alone and helpless whilst stuck abroad. I will forever be grateful and will always remember that first phone call where you helped give me hope again. Thank you."
- Devon, Ren's mum
Families we have flown back from overseas
Lia's Wings flew Molly from Cyprus back to the UK after she was born 16 weeks early
Molly was born 16 weeks early whilst her family were on holiday in Cyprus. Being born so early, Molly was placed in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Dealing with the stress of a premature birth is traumatic in any situation, even more so in a foreign country where language is a barrier and where this family had no support network around them. It was vital that Molly and her family were transferred home as soon as possible.
Lia's Wings provided financial assistance, help translating medical documents, support in obtaining emergency travel documents for Molly, emotional support for Bethany and Jan, and all the logistics for Molly’s safe air ambulance transfer home.
Lia's Wings flew Lochlan back from Abu Dhabi back to Scotland for specialist treatment
Lochlan was born in critical condition whilst his parents were in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. He received intensive care in Abu Dhabi but, due to his rare condition, the best option for Lochlan was to be flown back to his home in Scotland where he could receive specialist care.
Lia’s Wings provided Lochlan's family with financial assistance, emotional support, practical guidance and medical support for Lochlan’s safe air transfer home. Lia's Wings flew Lochlan to the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow. It was a huge relief for Lochlan's parents to finally be back in familiar surroundings and to have their friends and family around them.
